The Victorians believed that there was something eye-catchingly seductive about the flash of an ankle. Carrie Bradshaw adored that something so modest could be seen as something so daring. Luckily, we are in the Twenty-first Century, and fashion has come on leaps and bounds.
Until recently I had never bought anything online - but when it came to this adorable pair of Pretty Little Thing trousers, I knew that they would be the sweetest addition to my ever-downscaling Young Adult wardrobe.
If the baby blue and white gingham checks weren't cutesy enough already, the tummy and ankle frills really seal the deal. They are both unusual and timeless, making them exactly the kind of one-off 'wow' pieces that I love to wear.
On this particular occasion I was visiting a French Château in the English countryside and it was a beautiful and sunny summer's day, so I paired the trousers with a simple white vest (from New Look - and this must be approximately its 1000th public appearance) and my favourite pair of sandals (from Topshop - which have also been debuted many a time).
However, come Autumn and Winter, I can't wait to style them with a silky white shirt and little bow tie... to truly maximise the cute factor!
