How to spend one day in the Lake District: Keswick & Windermere

In a groovy alignment of the Universe, I spent this year's Spring Equinox in the Lake District. Despite it officially being "Spring", the weather really showed an impressive banquet of seasons, starting with (v o.t.t. and excessive) thick white fog, then golden bursts of sunlight through bright blue skies, and then grey clouds and hazy mists across the brown and purple heathery hills. And then, like the shake of a cocktail, they each continuously reappeared at random points throughout the day. Regardless, the Lake District is gorgey in all seasons, so really it was lucky to get to see a full year's worth of seasonal changes in approximately under ten hours. Anyhoo, here's my itinerary of what I did and would do in the Lakes in one day.

Destination #1: Keswick

What to do:
- Walk through the beautiful rows of B&Bs and admire the marvy buildings (all greeny-grey slate buildings from Ye Olde Days)
- Head into the main town for a quaint explore of some outdoorsy and foodsy shops (these include Joules, Friars and Rohan)
- Walk along Derwentwater Lake and the public footpaths across the surrounding hills

Where to eat:
- Whilst there a selection of low-lit pubs and sandwich-stops, my favey way to get lunch in Keswick is to pop to Booths and pick up some freshly-made focaccia, their fab own-brand cheese, pea-shoot salad, lemon & lime Juicy Water and Piper's chilli crisps. Take it to Derwentwater and enjoy whilst sitting by the Lake.

Destination #2: Windermere

What to do:
- Explore Lake Windermere: it is tres tres huge but the top is a quick car journey from the bottom, so why not start off at Ambleside before going to the Marina (lots of ice-cream vans around)
- Stroll through the town, which includes a Christmas shop (!!) and Beatrix Potter world

Where to snack:
- The Fizzy Tarté. Simply look at the photos. A piccy speaks a thousand words. (And their lattes are 10/10).

If you've recently visited the Lake District, pop your recommendations in the comments below - ciao until next time x
